Can bird flu be transferred from human to human?
|
Judging by some signs, such turn of events is possible. However, so far the virus hasn’t mutated into a more complex from, which can cause epidemics.
There are some cases that cause such concerns among scientists. For example, in Thailand a girl infected with bird flu, by some assumptions, may have infected her mother. The girl and her mother died, and her aunt, who also had bird flu, survived.
Professor John Oxborn, a British virologist, believes that these cases can indicate a possibility of human-to-human transmission of the virus. The expert predicts that this can happen again in the future.
Moreover, the Thai case is not the only example.
In 2004 in Vietnam two sisters died. They may have caught the bird flu infection from their brother, who died of some unascertained lung disease. A similar case was registered in 1997 in Hong Kong. There, a doctor had possibly caught an infection from his patient, in whom an H5N1 virus disease was detected later.
