World Wide bird flu epidemic possible !?
|
Experts believe that such a threat does exist. However, in Thailand, for instance, only close relatives of an infected person caught the bird flu infection, and the disease didn’t spread any further.
Besides, the bird flu virus hasn’t yet combined with common forms of human flu. But if it does happen, the consequences can be disastrous.
Scientists believe that under certain circumstances (if a human is simultaneously infected with common flu and bird flu), both viruses can exchange genes. The more it happens, the higher are chances for a new, human-to-human virus to appear.
If it does happen, what will be the consequences?
If the virus acquires the ability to transfer easily from human to human, the consequences will be tragic. Experts predict that in this case from 2 to 50 million people all over the world can die.
